As we approach the summer marketing blitz for Grand Theft Auto VI, rumors of further delays are spiking again. Here is why the latest corporate assurances might be hiding a massive disappointment for the PC gaming community.
If you are a PC gamer waiting for Grand Theft Auto VI, I have bad news. You might want to sit down.
The internet has been exploding with rumors that Rockstar Games is internally delaying the physical release of GTA VI to 2027. The panic was so bad that Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has repeatedly had to go on record, reaffirming the official November 19, 2026 release date and stating he is “highly confident” they will hit that target.
But as a veteran of every Rockstar launch since Vice City, I’m not buying the “All Clear” signal.
While the console version might actually hit its November 2026 target, the silence around the PC port is deafening. If you look at historical data and current supply chain realities, the “2027 Delay” isn’t just a rumor for PC gamers—it’s an optimistic fantasy. The reality is likely late 2027 or even 2028.
Here is why you should be genuinely worried about your gaming rig’s future.

The “Denial” Was Very Specific
When CEO Strauss Zelnick speaks to investors, he carefully discusses the launch window for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. He talks about marketing beats and Q3 revenue projections.
Notice what is constantly missing from these financial calls? The PC Version.
Rockstar has a notorious history of “Double Dipping.” This is the practice of selling you the game on a console first, waiting for the hype to settle, and then selling it to you again on PC a year or two later with slightly upgraded graphics.
- GTA V: Consoles (2013) -> PC (2015). Gap: 19 Months.
- Red Dead Redemption 2: Consoles (2018) -> PC (2019). Gap: 13 Months.
If GTA VI launches on PS5 in November 2026, a standard 12-to-18-month gap puts the PC release deep into 2028.
The “Optimization” Nightmare
We all remember the launch of Cyberpunk 2077. It launched before it was ready, specifically on older hardware, and it temporarily destroyed CD Projekt Red’s sterling reputation.
Rockstar is terrified of that happening to their crown jewel.
The sheer scope of GTA VI’s “Leonida” map is pushing current-gen consoles to their absolute limits. The game is being optimized for a unified PS5 and Xbox architecture. Porting a game of this magnitude to the millions of random PC configurations—balancing NVIDIA vs. AMD drivers, varying amounts of RAM, and different CPU bottlenecks—is a QA testing nightmare.
Rockstar is not going to risk the biggest entertainment launch in human history on a buggy PC port. They will delay it as long as it takes.
The Stock Market Reality Check
Wall Street isn’t entirely convinced by the November 2026 date either. Take-Two Interactive (TTWO) stock has seen significant volatility every time a “2027 delay” rumor hits Reddit or X (formerly Twitter).
Why? Because smart money knows that a delay is better than a broken game. If Rockstar rushes a PC port to hit a Q4 financial goal and it crashes constantly, the stock will tank harder than it did during the infamous 2022 source code leaks. Investors are bracing for the reality that the massive influx of PC-related revenue won’t hit the balance sheets until fiscal year 2028.

The Verdict: Buy a Console or Start Waiting
I want to be wrong. I want to play GTA VI on an RTX 5090 on day one. But the writing is on the wall.
The “2027 Delay” rumor might be officially denied for consoles, but for us PC gamers, getting the game in 2027 would actually be a massive win.
My final advice: If you really want to play GTA VI on launch day and avoid spoilers, start saving for a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X now. Waiting for the PC version is going to be a long, lonely road.
